November’s RESTORATIVE Yoga Class — When Tired, Rest — This Sunday, November 15th, 1-3 p.m. & Donation-Only Gentle Movement Class This Sunday, November 15th, 11:40 a.m.-12:25 p.m.

Good Monday Morning All,

The tone of most conversations I have been having with people lately is how busy we all are.

It seems as though people hardly have time to do what is on their calendars, let alone take time for themselves, and there seems to be no release in sight.

We have gone from busy summer schedules and activities right into busy fall and holiday schedules and events. That is the call and allure of Vata energy. Vata whispers to all of us, “Stay busy and keep moving no matter what.”

Yet, when I teach, students are asking for more rest and meditation. Yes!

Less, I learn, over and over is most definitely more.

Having studied with yoga teacher Mary Paffard last weekend, I love that the topic of self-care came up a lot! She mentioned a book by Claudia Welch, Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life. Mary spoke about the basic tenets of self-care, that occur in both Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. that hopefully when we feel hungry, we eat; when we feel thirsty, we drink; and when we feel tired, we rest, right? Well, often, when we feel tired, we think something must be wrong and may do anything and everything other than slow down, take a nap or, please forgive me, actually sit and lie down and rest.

This is the quote from Welch’s book that I think Mary was referencing:

If we feel tired, we think something is wrong. Nothing is wrong. We are just tired. We need rest. Sometimes a lot of it, if we’ve gone for years vetoing our body’s signals.

Acknowledge all that you do accomplish every day, and let yourself rest and recover. If you have been feeling deeply tired, deeply rest. You will feel better and actually have more energy for all that you want to do.

Monthly Sunday
Donation-Only Gentle Movement, 11:40 a.m.-12:25 p.m.
November 15th — This Sunday!
Holiday Date: December 6th

DONATION-ONLY GENTLE MOVEMENT: If you are unsure of yoga and tai chi and what they mean, you may want to try this Gentle Movement class. This class is exactly what its title says: pay only what you can afford and move gently. Learn to approach the body and yourself in a gentle manner through mindful movement, stretching and breathing and discover the effects that just a little bit of gentle movement can have on you and your body. We all deserve to feel the best we can feel, no matter what age or what ailment.

I am wishing a week, or at least moments, full of “less” for all of us.

May we all hold space for ourselves to breathe, to be,
to rest when tired, to feel human once more.

Namaste,

Nicole
