March’s Workshop on the Low Back! A “Sea of Vitality”: How To Find Strength, Ease and Flow in the Low Back, Sunday, 3/6/16, 1-4 p.m. at A Little Space Yoga & Tai Chi

I hope you are all well and that we all have everything we need and are safe as we head into the predicted storm starting late tonight. I am looking forward to having a snow day and taking care of myself and my world tomorrow.

I am also looking forward to offering this weekend’s workshop on the knees for the second year in a row. I will be adding ideas about hands to this year’s workshop.

Thank you for your interest in these monthly workshops. I hope you are finding them helpful. After next month’s workshop on the Lower Back, I may be taking a little hiatus from the monthly workshops. I may, however, still offer the Seasonal Breathing & Meditation Workshop.

Here is the writing for “The Congregationalist” for next month’s workshop. Like the knees, there is still a relationship to the kidney organ system with the Lower Back. This might make a little more sense due to their proximity to each other. Hope you can join us!

Supporting the Oceans in Your Body

The body is basically rivers, streams or currents of energy, life force, vitality, qi or prana. According to the ideas of both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, we are more energy than anything that is stuck, stagnant or sick. At all times, all of us are knowingly or unknowingly practicing what yoga, tai chi, qigong and meditation are in essence — energy work. The question often is: Are we practicing energy work that is conducive to our health and well-being or discouraging to it?

These are not complicated ideas. We all know foods and activities that help us feel better, and we also know those that lead us to feel not so well. This is not a “should” or “should not” practice, but more a listening practice: Are we remaining present, kind and gentle and truthful to ourselves?

Qigong, “qi” means energy and “gong” means cultivation, of which Tai Chi is a type, is not just working with our bones and muscles but also with the organs and nerves and blood, etc., and even more with the cells of them and not just with the cells but the energy within the cells. So joint or back issues are not just those areas but also the state of the energy in those areas. In many ways, putting the body in a more holistic view of “being energy” can be freeing and healing than thinking of it as just a sum of parts. So yes, there are bones and muscles and organs and nerves and blood but even deeper in all of us is energy. Connect with yours today! You are more healthy than not.

Join us for February’s Workshop this weekend on Knees (and Hands) and/or March’s Workshop on the Lower Back to learn more about these ideas.

  1. This Sunday, March 6th, will be my first attempt at a three-hour long workshop and the last monthly workshop I will offer for awhile, as I pursue other interests, both personal and professional.

Thank you for a wonderful year plus and opportunity to offer monthly workshops on subjects that interested me and that I hope were useful and helpful to you!!!

For this Sunday’s workshop, I am asking for people to sign up and pay by this Wednesday, March 2nd. I do not know when I will offer this again in this format. I am always available for private sessions.

Sunday’s workshop will be on my teachings for the lower back. This is your chance to learn more about the lower back and how to take care of it through yoga and tai chi ideas. Healing is in your own hands and practice.

    Pain in Your Low Back?

Believe it or not, ideas and movements from the traditions of yoga and tai chi may be able to help heal your low back pain. Learn about the main job and natural movements of your lower back and how to respect and restore them through simple ideas that can strengthen and release this area that is designed to support you unconditionally. One thing you can do right now is make fists with your hands and take the back of your fists and gently rub up and down and side to side your mid- to lower back. As you do so, thank your back for all that it does for you and all that is “right” with it. Your body listens to everything you say and think about it.
